Small press publisher; for readers of mystery, fantasy, and science fiction works
What's your vision?
I need a book cover in both ebook and print-wrap formats. The print edition will be a a trade paperback on 5”x8” with white paper, so the wrap-around will be 10.89” W x 8.21” H, which includes the 0.66” spine and 0.125" bleed. (The ebook cover dimensions should fit Amazon’s minimum requirements.) This book collects mystery and science fiction/ fantasy stories with a holiday theme. So it needs to be evocative of all three: * mystery * science fiction/fantasy * winter holidays For the written elements: The title of the book is: Joy to the Worlds: Mysterious Speculative Fiction for the Holidays The word “Worlds” should be larger and/or more prominent than the other words in the title. Emphasis on the Worlds since this is speculative fiction and involves more than one world. The author’s names: Maia Chance, Janine A. Southard, Raven Oak, and G. Clemans For the image, I’m thinking: - outer space or spaceship background. If it can be the interior of the ship, even better. - a snow globe (with a town inside it or something Christmas-y). Ideally, I’d love it if you could put a dead Santa in the scene—either his entire body or just is leg/arm/head sticking out near the snow globe. One of the stories has Santa (who’s a mobster) killed on a space ship. His corpse is found with a snow globe. - The back cover must include the Grey Sun Press logo (attached to this brief in PNG format) and have space for an ISBN barcode. (You’re not responsible for the barcode, just for leaving space.) Stylistically: I’m interested in covers that are a bit gritty and distressed. Also, several stories in the book involve Victorian/1800’s time and are pretty dark. I don’t have a preference for type of digital art (illustration, photo manipulation, etc). UPDATE 7/17/15: We've decided to go with Mysterious Speculative Fiction for the Holidays as the subtitle and have changed it in the brief. UPDATE 7/18/15: If you're using stock images that aren't labeled for modified reuse under Creative Commons License or images you don't own the right to, please let us know. Also, make sure to tell us where the images came from so that we might secure usage rights. Preference is for covers using CCL images and/or images you have the rights to use.
