Matthew T. Hill has worked in the almost wilderness and concrete jungles of public parks for over twenty years. He spends his non-writing time exploring the Pacific Northwest and playing pinball with his wife in Seattle, Washington.

Brian Jensen’s bucket factory just lost its largest client and hinges on failure, but instead of addressing the underlying issues that have long plagued his business, he seeks an escape back to nature and the nostalgia of a childhood in the scouts. Brian and his three boyhood friends embark on a weekend camping trip where they struggle with outdoorsmanship and fumble through unexpected interactions with the feisty humans and creatures that inhabit the campground. For Brian, the bumbling adventure into the outdoors has provided clarity, but will the new focus remain long enough to lend him the courage to win the battle for his bucket factory? He won’t know until he goes home.

Typically, men over the age of 35. Midwestern and rural Americans. Middle aged people of any gender or country looking for the nostalgia of exploring the outdoors in their youth.

The Man Scouts is lighthearted and playful with occasional dips into dramatic self reflection but is intended, overall, to convey a sense of nostalgia and wonder for the outdoors and how that reflects on the human spirit. The book cover should focus on four men immersed in nature. The men themselves are not terribly different in physical dimensions. One is slightly shorter and one is slightly taller than the others, but that is a minor detail. However, these men are not rugged cowboy types, they are just average, middle aged men from the working class who are on a weekend camping trip to an established national park in a forested mountain. They will be fishing in rivers and lakes. I like the imagery of the four men in silhouette against the backdrop of either a sunset, a forest or a river. Either fishing, hiking or sitting around a campfire. The mood should be overall warm with perhaps hints of aquas or blues somewhere in the background to reflect peace, healing or imagination. I do not have a specific font style in mind, but a simple font to convey humor without being cartoonish would be nice. These are loose descriptions and I do not wish to step on creativity, so please design what comes to your mind.

Please avoid cartoonish imagery or fonts and anything that would appear too glossy in print.
