shan.carl got their new book cover by running a design contest:
Designing the front of a book cover on US colleges
Check out shan.carl's Book cover contest…
I'm part of a group of friends who are conducting a series of interviews with US college students (and recent grads), eventually compiling them into a PDF file that we will sell as a digital book. The title of the book is: "College Uncensored: Honest Reflections From College Students" Our goal is to inform our audience of immigrant (mostly Chinese, Indian, Korean) parents and students about the realities of the US education system. Our 15 candid interviews dive into these students personal lives in college, touching on subjects that are mostly taboo to discuss, including sex, drugs, racism/classism. You can read more about the project at www.collegeuncensored.org
What's your vision?
We are looking for a design of the front cover of a digital book. FRONT: Size of front covers: A11 paper size, 8.5'' x 11'' Color scheme: no preference The front cover should contain the title of the book: "College Uncensored: Honest Reflections From College Students" as well as each of the author's names in the following order: By Carl Shan, Amit Pasupathy, Allison Tam, Quinn Winters, Jeffrey Chan I would like readers' first-impressions of the book cover to be that it is: 1. Authentic -- the stories inside will be true, candid ones 2. Powerful -- the font choice for both the title and subtitle should clearly indicate that this is a book of immense power and wisdom 3. Professional -- Although the book is a self-published project, I would like the book cover to give the impression that it was professionally produced and created. Since this book is meant to appeal to parents of high school and middle school students, please avoid any "scandalous" covers, no matter how likely they may be to attract attention. I would prefer to not have a person on the cover, as the chosen individual's gender/race may make the book be perceived as only for certain readers. But I will leave that up to the designer to see if there is a way to make it look good. Since the title is "College Uncensored," I would be interested in seeing covers that play on the "Uncensored" portion of the title, while still remaining family-friendly. For example, an image student covering his/her mouth.
