The Date Night Effect
I got married when I was 20 years old and we’ve now been together for 19 years. We have two beautiful, sweet, rambunctious boys. I stayed home with my kids (for 5 years) before transitioning back to work (remotely) a few years ago. I also am a practiced road warrior and travel for work periodically. Over the years, my marriage has gone through many up & down stages. I know, first hand, the juggling act that is life & work & traveling for work & kids & marriage. I have many lessons learned and battle scars from the journey. And many beautiful, heartwarming, and life affirming stories. And I’ve learned that marriage really does have to come first - before the other things can fall into place more nicely.
This book is a comprehensive guide for people stuck in a rut in their marriage. It will teach them not only why they should prioritize dating their partner, but also give them a couple hundred, creative ideas on how to do so. I equate dating your partner to saving in a savings account. The positive things you do in your relationship build up capital that you can ultimately pull on when things, inevitably, get harder through down times. This is a unique book because it will not only give a laundry list of ideas (like the blogs do), but it provides information on why you should go going through the effort and not just shrug it off as "something only those lovebirds do." It gives practical advice and helps people get through the daily obstacles that get in the way of prioritizing their relationship. It’s also written by someone that has been married for 20 years and has two young children. So the advice is not only fun but sound - practiced through years of marriage. Many of my competitors have very lovey-dovey books and covers. I want to promote marriage health, connection, and love. But not in as much of a flowery & heart-splattered way.
Couples who have been together for a bit or are embarking on a committed relationship. Who are looking for ways to re-energize, infuse fun, and maybe even rekindle love & passion in their relationships. Very likely people with kids who have little time & energy. They are most likely between 30-60 years old. They struggle with the demands of life - work, adulting, kids, etc. Finding time for fun can be a challenge. I'm targeting females in the relationship - as they are most likely to be the planners. This is not a book for people casually dating.
Book cover type
Don’t know yet
I want the mood to be hopeful, loving, fulfilling, fun, exciting - like your partnership is taking flight (for some reason the color yellow comes to mind - but I'm by no means tied to that color or the imagery of flying). Not over-the-top lovey-dovey. Please no pink or hearts. This is for an ebook cover - but the print book will eventually be 5.5 x 8.5". And I will also have an ACX cover. So the design needs to be translatable. Less is more - I'd like to have a key image that pulls attention Vivid image - grab someone's attention with a high quality image that has topic resonance Have the title and the image play together (for example books like "Get It Done" or "Leaders Eat Last" or "Made to Stick" or "Clutch")
What to avoid
No pink. No hearts. No dinners for two tables. No flower bouquets. I want to differentiate this from the other lovey-dovey books on the market.
