Trustle is working on a new product - Ello. Ello is an app that works with real, physical books that children read. Ello (an elephant character in the app) listens to a child read from real books, helps them if they get stuck, and motivates them to keep going. The target age range is children (boys and girls) ages 4-8 years old.
What's your vision?
We are looking for character designs for Ello (the primary elephant character in the app). Criteria we’re thinking about: How easy is it to animate Non-gendered Easy to integrate into a storyline (e.g. different costumes for different occasions) We’d love to explore the design space on the spectrum from more abstract to more child-friendly and spot out the extremes a bit, even though we’d probably land somewhere towards a character that is appealing and engaging for children (similar examples include: Daniel Tiger, the characters from Osmo, the characters from the apps Endless ABC and Teach your Monster to Read). The Feeling – For Children Our goal is to make children WANT to read and to LOVE the reading process. Ello is their partner on their reading journey. As such, we want a child interacting with Ello to feel that Ello is: Supportive and non-judgemental Kind and caring Their friend Occasionally fun and/or exciting, but not as a primary quality Ello is not their teacher or parent (even though he/she sometimes helps.) Children lose motivation with their parents as they feel judged. As such, Ello is probably ‘young.’ Maybe another way to think about the design space – we’re going for something relatively simple 2D that can be easily animated and personified
see concept here: https://www.readwithello.com/. While Ello is depicted here, we are looking for alternative designs.
