Raising Voices is a non-profit organization based in Uganda (East Africa) that works to prevent violence against women and children. www.raisingvoices.org Raising Voices published SASA! in 2008 and is preparing to publish a revision called SASA! Together. SASA! is a community mobilization approach to prevent violence against women. SASA! means 'now' in Kiswahili and is also an acronym for the four phases of the approach: Start, Awareness, Support, Action. SASA! is being used by over 60 non-profit organizations around the world and particularly in the Global South and has been translated into 4 languages.

This contest is to change the main design element in SASA! Together. Currently, it is a starburst that is used on the cover and internal pages (see attachments cover: SASA!KIt.jpg / Start_binder.FINALpdf and internal pages Start.InsidePage) This design element can be graphic or illustrated. The graphic element(s) should look fresh, clean, energetic and activist. Emotions we would like the design to provoke are: inspiring, hopeful, empowering and exciting. We want an activist/social justice look -- not corporate look. SASA! activism is not an aggressive/protest style/'in your face' activism. It is a very personal, collaborative and heart-centered approach. It is inclusive -- involving both women and men of all ages. Since the approach is used all over the world, IF people are used, they should be stylistic, African and inclusive -- women and men, ages 18 and up, different faiths, abilities, etc. We will maintain the 4 colors of the phase books and the phase icons (arrow, eye, hands, exclamation point) for each of the phases (see attachment SASA!Kit.jpg).
