Entertainment & The Arts
We are a digital media and live event production company out of New Orleans that focuses on supporting and showcasing community arts and culture. Our target audience is artistic, educational, or an admirer of arts/culture. Our biggest mission is to share the joy of a traditional New Orleans second line and more through "The Jazz Crawl" cultural exchange tour. jazzcrawl.com
The company is brand new, but it evolved from the "Jazz Crawl for Charity" that was established 5 years ago. The current logo we're using was extracted from previous event flyers. We think it's time to upgrade the brand imagery since we are now an operating production company with the need for better brand assets like a brand mark/word mark. We'd like to stick to something close to the purple/magenta we've been using, but from our experience we've found that the gold and purple make it hard to integrate the brand styling across different ; light/dark media. We've been sticking to a monochromatic color scheme with that purple and light neutrals/grays. If we don’t see a new word mark we like than we would likely go with the new brand mark to accompany the current design for the word mark like JazzcrawL. We’re hoping for a completely refreshing Word/Brand mark combo though! We commonly refer to the company as JCP, so a creative idea for the brand mark is to use the form of a tuba instrument to resemble the “J” for Jazz and within the circular space the design of the tubes and valves could be a representations of “CP”. I’ve included several images of a tuba with some mockup ideas about how the CP could look. If the design isn’t going to emulate the “J” in the word mark, I’d like the brand mark to fill out a circular space as much as possible so another direction could be to use the French horn or a “down the bell” perspective of the horn’s bell. The valves and tubes of the French horn could again provide more opportunity for abstractly designing JCP into the mark. Same for the trumpet since the JCP could run across the three valves. It would need to be stumpy to fit the circular space. Feathers are a big part of New Orleans culture, primarily the plumes of the Mardi Gras Indian suits and Social Aid & Pleasure Club feathered fans. We definitely want a feather/feathers to be incorporated into the design. I’ve mocked up some ideas about how the feather could fit in with the design of a horn. If it doesn’t fit well within the design I would like to see feather(s) used to possibly circularly frame brand mark and/or underline the word mark. I’ve included some examples for that. You can also search for "Mardi Gras Indians" to the feathers from the culture. We want the logo to be able to keep its significance scaled down, so the details shouldn’t be too fine. Looking to create something symbolic/iconic. IMPORTANT NOTE: I have included several mockups to best express some of my ideas, but I’d like the designers to be free with their creativity. I don’t want them to feel like they have to stick to my notes/designs. I’ll do my best to comment on the bids to keep everything clear throughout the campaign. I'll also try to continue keeping up with a collection of more photos and images here. Thanks!
