Food & Drink
The Local Food Box Program is a marketing partnership between farmers that offers eaters an opportunity to conveniently access local food while directly supporting local producers. Participants in the Local Food Box program receive a food box from June to late September, for a total of 16 weeks. The contents of the food box can be customized with the following options: • Local organically grown fruits and vegetables (weekly) • Locally-raised meats (bi-weekly) • Local Free-range eggs (weekly) • Locally grown whole-wheat flour and wheat berries The contents of the meat and veggies options are prepared by the farmers according to what is in season or in stock. Boxes are available for pick-up either in Victoria (nearest city) or at Wind Whipped Farm (in Metchosin). The Local Food Box is a type of community supported agriculture (CSA) program. Benefits for customers include: • Consistent supply of good, fresh, local food • Relationship with the producers • Convenient pick-up of multiple items in one location • Opportunity to directly support local farmers/producers Benefits for producers include: • Pre-selling products helps planning and management allowing for more time and energy being dedicated to production • Income at the beginning of the season facilitates food production related expenses or investments • Opportunity to build a relationship with customers • Collaborating to access a broader network of customers
Logo types to explore
We like vintage style, somewhat rugged, very simple logos. One idea we had is a wooden box/crate stamped with "Local Food". We would like our logo to fit on a square business card. Nothing curvy/flowery. Our slogan is "We farm. You feast." We are not sure if we want it in the logo. This is our current blog: thelocalfoodbox.com. We are in the process of improving it, but it can give you an idea of what we are about. ***Please note: our idea described in the previous paragraph evolved quite a bit since we first filled in this brief. Below is an update written on thursday, february 13th, of where we are at. Here are two logos/websites/general style we like: http://youngagrarians.org/ http://www.frysbakery.com/ We've been doing some thinking and we would like to throw some more ideas into the mix. The idea for the wooden box comes from wanting to evoke a time where food was more simple, more basic. But we feel like the box needs to be connected/anchored to food, a specific place, or farming in general. Connecting it to images of our food products is challenging because we offer veggies, fruits, meats, eggs, and flour. Unless we can all fit them in, they should not be included. But maybe there is a way to include them all? Although there is no single food product that represents all our food products, how about other images that relate to food? What about a fork and a knife? Maybe a fork and a knife stamped on the box (like the fragile/wineglass symbol)? The other option is to connect our logo to a place. We all farm on the very southern tip of Vancouver Island (BC, Canada), in a small town called Metchosin. Maybe there is a way to integrate an image of the island to give a sense of place? I will add to the brief an example of a local salt maker who uses an image of Vancouver Island. We don't love his logo but it gives a sense of Vancouver Island. 2) We like the logos you have all worked on but so far nothing really jumps at us. This is most probably our fault, we came to this process thinking we knew more or less what we wanted, and maybe what we thought we wanted does not work after all...At this point we are wondering:-Should our logo include the image of a box? What about a plate? Other?-Should we consider a logo that works both in color and in black and white?-Should we include more text to the logo? Maybe our slogan "We farm. You feast." and/or our location "Metchosin, BC"? Maybe we need to be more flexible on the font?
