Programmer by trade. Paleo by Choice.
Food & Drink
UPDATE: Make sure to read all the feedback I have left on the contest's main entry page. IMPORTANT: I will be expecting a vector-based graphic for scalability. Hello designers! I'm starting a health food blog (because the world needs more of those). I have a domain, but I'm looking for a cool logo to kick off the design process of my site. I'm looking for something clever, unique, simple, and professional. I want to be able to grow this blog into a brand, and, maybe, have my own cookbook, or three, one day, so I'm really looking for something that stands out from the rest of the Paleo sites out there. To name a few: http://balancedbites.com http://paleomg.com http://whole9life.com http://www.paleoeffect.com http://beta.primal-palate.com http://civilizedcavemancooking.com http://www.health-bent.com Please take a moment to look over those sites for at least a few minutes. You might even find something yummy to make for dinner! These sites may or may not be advertised on my site, and vice versa, so I don't consider any of them to be my enemies or "competition", but rather my inspiration. These sites are doing what I am trying to do, and while I consider them friends, I do want to stand out from the crowd. With your help, I can do that. The name of the site was originally going to be I'm No Chef, which is my current Instagram handle (@imnochef), with the premise that I'm not a chef: I just love to cook. If you have Instagram, come check out my photos to get a sense of who I am and what I like to cook. I thought the name was going to be harder to design for and build a brand around. The new name will be Paleo Bytes. The premise is that I am a programmer by trade, but Paleo by choice. The tagline DOES NOT have to be incorporated into your designs, but I thought I would include it for your benefit as you design my new logo. My recipes will be Paleo-focused. In a few words, Paleo is a lifestyle centered around a diet that consists of minimally processed foods--ideally, completely unprocessed foods. Think "Caveman Diet". That being said, while I am not completely against a caveman appearing in the logo somewhere, I think that would be too obvious. And, please, NO DINOSAURS or Apes! I believe in Creation and I do not want my logo to imply scientific evolution. Please do not incorporate any wine bottles or food items that might suggest a certain level of sophistication or cuisine, like a fish for instance might convey that I prefer seafood or that I like to fish or that I smell bad. Salt, like in the "Pinch" logo I've attached, is acceptable because that is a common ingredient to nearly every recipe. If you do include a food item in the logo, which IS NOT A REQUIREMENT, I'd prefer vegetables over fruit. Here are some of the more popular foods in the Paleo community. Coconut Bacon Eggs Meat Most fruits and vegetables The logo should also hint at the fact that I'm a computer scientist, specifically, a web programmer. It already hints at this with the word, "bytes", but I want to take it a step further. In addition to a full logo, I'd like a version that only has the P from Paleo and B from Bytes (PB) that could stand on its own. It doesn't have to be the P and the B, but that's probably the easiest thing to do. It could just be some other type of graphic that somehow represents the site. I plan on uploading some screen shots of just some quick "rough" designs I did in Illustrator, but these are just initial ideas that I expect you to expand and improve upon, or, ideally, come up with something totally original of your own creation. In addition to fun and delicious recipes, I plan on offering cooking tips, techniques, and product reviews, doing giveaways, and other chef-y and food blog-related things. My target audience is anyone that is interested in eating and cooking healthy food and learning their way around their own kitchen. I'm open to pretty much anything, but I prefer the wordplay/wordmark style of logo. I've uploaded some examples of wordplay logos that I think are clever. I do not have a color scheme yet, so something that I could easily interchange colors on, such as in Illustrator or Photoshop, would be great. Also, I am leaning toward a light background color for my web site, maybe even solid white, so keep that in mind when choosing outer colors that may come in contact with the background color of my site. If you have any questions for me, please ask, and I will do my absolute best to respond within the hour. If I do not respond quickly, it is probably because I am sleeping. Although, I don't get much of that these days. Please only submit your best work--work that you would be proud to show off to potential clients. Every designer that impresses me in this contest will be recommended to my friends, family, and business partners.
