MAXIMA needs a new logo

Maximising Impact through Mathematics
MAXIMA harnesses the best mathematical minds from across Monash University and our global partners, including Warwick University, one of the top mathematics departments in the United Kingdom. Like most universities, Monash is home to mathematically trained people working in diverse disciplines—from engineering, computer science and econometrics to our maths department in the Faculty of Science. But what MAXIMA brings to the table is the ability to acknowledge and harness the diverse mathematical minds right here at our finger tips. We now have a large talent pool to address mathematical questions posed by our partners. We’re growing the talent pool too, through MAXIMA’s training programs, and securing the pipeline through outreach activities that show the next generation, and their teachers and parents, how vital mathematics can be. Through collaboration between mathematicians and interdisciplinary and industry partners, MAXIMA aims to exploit the power of existing mathematics to deliver impact to society now, and to use these societal challenges to drive the mathematical innovations and questions that will create the next wave of curiosity-driven mathematics research for the future. STRATEGIC VISION - To be a catalyst for mathematical innovation providing access to the best mathematical minds focused on delivering impact through mathematics - Short-term: solutions to societal problem based on existing mathematics - Long-term: an opportunity to shape the new mathematics that is being developed now to deliver impact in the future - To support the training of a new generation of mathematical minds able to deliver this vision into the future. In short, there are four components to MAXIMA: 1. Research 2. Consulting (with industry) 3. Training 4. Outreach (reaching out to our future mathematicians)
Logo types to explore
Open to interpretation based on the brief. Mathematics plays on complexity - often it refers to the idea of the complexity but logic of the layout of sunflowers (see attached image). Institutions with a similar concept to MAXIMA include: http://www.ima.umn.edu/ - although the logo is quite plain / uninspiring http://www.amsi.org.au/ - a little boring...
