Matei82 got their new app design by running a design contest:
Let's help teenagers: a fulfilling professional life starts here
Check out Matei82's App design contest…
We're building a platform that teaches high school kids the skills of the future by giving them real-world tasks they need to complete to advance and earn rewards.
*** this contest was originally in the "others" category and 99designs suggested I relaunch this contest in the app category and clarify the screens required. Please resubmit your existing designs in this contest since the other one is now locked. *** Since this is an app targeted at teens, we're looking to be familiar and also unique: Familiar: whatsapp, youtube, tik tok, snapchat, instagram, possibly even ask.fm Unique: bright colors, bold shapes, irregular geometry
The Lemonade Stand
We're building a mobile app to appeal to high school kids. The "game" consists of teenagers taking on real-world tasks from various domains that require them to learn specific, future-proof skills. As they complete a task, they earn coins and level up for specific skills and progressively they get access to better and better rewards (including real-world stuff) up until getting access to real world jobs. Here are some example tasks/activities: - throw a party - sell 5 t-shirts on RedBubble - organize a meetup about cybersecurity - play clash of clans and come up with 10 ways to improve it - design your school's logo and uniform For this contest, we will focus on three of the app's screens, as follows: 1. The task feed This is the list of tasks (think of them as activities or challenges) the user can take on. Each task has a name, an estimated time to completion and a reward. The reward depends on the user's track record (initially he only gets coins but he progressively builds up to real world rewards like movie tickets, internships, camps, etc). The best way to think of this feed is similar to an Instagram / Youtube or TikTok feed. 2. The task screen (task details - before the user commits to it) A task's screen has instructions, deliverables, a Q&A area and a list of mentors. Once the user commits to a task (by pressing a "start" button), he will pledge the task's "price" in coins and he is required to complete that task in a specific amount of time. The task is broken down in steps. 3. The task screen (progress & submission of deliverables) After he commits to a task, the timer starts, the pledged coins are blocked and he can now upload deliverables (mostly videos, probably). During a task, he can ask questions in the Q&A of this task, check the step-by-step guide and mark steps as done ---- a very rough mockup (that includes more screens that are not required at this stage): https://xd.adobe.com/spec/f4f11c7b-7233-4a45-69b3-236933548d6a-82c0/ ---- Top apps teens use today: Youtube, Snapchat, Instagram, Whatsapp, TikTok. Please remember these are not kids. We are targeting 16+ year olds. ---- This app is trying to appeal to one of the most demanding types of users: teenagers. And we need to hook them into something that will ultimately help them out A LOT, while still making sure we're "trendy" and not take up too much of their time. It's a difficult mission, but we're really passionate about making it a reality. If you believe in our mission, we're likely to want to work with you as a co-founder, on top of reasonable payment for the rest of the design. It's up to you how much time you want to put into this project, but what I can tell you is that we are dead set on something extraordinary. We're really trying to help high schoolers with figuring out how they will lead a fulfilling, meaningful professional life. Help us make this happen. Join us!
