sarah W got their new app design by running a design contest:
Make an adorable interface for a photo sticker app
Check out sarah W's App design contest…
It's basically a simple Photosticker app - load your photo in, or take one, and dress it up with graphic stickers and send to friends. The interesting twist will be that we are theming the stickers around Jewish holidays.
We'd like this to appeal to 4-8 year olds. Not a lot of words - uses icons instead wherever possible. Things should not be too busy - instead, bold and bright. Use bubblegum and bright pastel colors, make it very Japanese "kawaii" - cute! Big bubbly round shapes easy for a small child to touch accurately. We really love all the trendy photosticker apps and everything Japanese.
Screen 1: splash screen - we see the title of the app (StickerSchticker), some adorable character who looks like she's making photo art or stamping things...and three big easy to press buttons: TAKE PHOTO and USE PHOTO FROM GALLERY - you have to pick one of these buttons to move on. Screen 2: Interface where we see the photo on top - it's too big so we see much of it grayed out and the bright part has a crop area indicated. At the bottom we have buttons for NEW, STICKERS, SHARE and SAVE. Clicking STICKERS makes a sticker window pop up over the screen...something like how the car works in this example. We would not want to use a car though...how about an overflowing toy box or something? https://lh4.ggpht.com/hgRG9_Q5UdOZsmBhf44_Ec4e7vRj9HFE-ySQjSbsH9JaObmvu9dP0cx0o83iT9jcnhtX
What to avoid
Use as few words as possible...or combine words with icons kids who can't read understand. Make this a little bit more for girls...without being over the top. Not too much pink and purple. We would rather see a more colorful palette. We love bright green and aqua and orange. Please, NO kitschy Jewish art. We want this to be generic. The only thing that will be Jewish is the stickers we'll make later inside the app, and by the way, we'll be looking for a sticker artist too.
