Adrian z got their new app design by running a design contest:
San Francisco Startup NEEDS HIP/BADASS APP DESIGN
Check out Adrian z's App design contest…
Our app instantaneously connects college students with a tutor via the camera on their mobile phone.
The application is intended for college ages 17-21. We like purple/indigo both light and dark, and complimentary colors. An ongoing theme throughout our brand is karma. The application's aesthetic must appeal to a mobile-first generation. We would like for the application to look less like an education app and more like something that a college student wouldn't mind using all the time. It needs to feel: - Young - Sophisticated - Hip - Remember the Karma theme and the Eastern religious philosophy theme. - Our last logo was a lotus flower... - Listen to the song "So Many Details" by Toro y Moi when designing this :)
The application is intended for college ages 17-21. Our customers are expected to be mostly female, however, this shouldn’t be immediately apparent. We like purple/indigo both light and dark, and complimentary colors (we’re loosely tied to this...if something else looks good, sell us on it). An ongoing theme throughout our brand is karma. The application's aesthetic must appeal to a mobile-first generation. We would like for the application to look less like an education app and more like something that a college student wouldn't mind using all the time. On the student side - A user will open the app, be greeted, and taken to a login screen where they will be able to login with email/password, sign up, or log in with Facebook or LinkedIn. After logging in they're then taken to some sort of home screen...on this home screen a user should have the ability to access a settings area where they can edit important information such as credit card information. ** This next part, we're not sure how to best make this flow...we'd love your input on UX and flow...do we keep it on the home page or do we need another screen.** Either on the home screen or on a new screen, a student then chooses the type of mathematics that he or she needs help in...from there they are paired with a tutor via video chat who can help them. Note - immediately/onDemand Inside of the chat session a tutor can send notes in the form of pictures, and (VERY IMPORTANT) both parties can send and receive 'Karma' by double tapping on the live feed. We have yet to figure out the best way to visually represent this. This is a visual design as well as a UX design. What does giving and receiving Karma look like? The tutor side(Gurus) also will have its own flow. We plan on designing it. But were looking to have the Gurus first screen(login screen) designed. We want to Have the Tutors(Gurus) and students login using the same app. Guru side will of course be different. Our thoughts - include a selection option to choose between guru and student sides of the app. This selection action should be in the beginning and clean so that the student doesn't know the guru side exists in the same application. We've been using a 'Slide left'.
