egrebnev got their new other book or magazine by running a design contest:
Cover design for an academic journal in Oxford
Check out egrebnev's Other book or magazine contest…
We are an academic research centre at The Queen's College, Oxford (https://www.queens.ox.ac.uk/centre-manuscript-and-text-cultures). We conduct inter-disciplinary events (seminars, workshops, conferences) and publish our own journal on manuscripts, inscriptions, and text cultures of ancient Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome, East and South Asia, Mesoamerica and Medieval Europe. We study how the proliferation of the written word in accessible forms caused profound societal transformations in different parts of the ancient world.
What's your vision?
We need a professional-looking and yet creative cover for an academic journal Manuscript and Text Cultures that we are launching at Oxford. This will be primarily an electronic publication (HTML/EPUB, PDF), but we will have a print-on-demand version, too, so the journal cover needs to look equally attractive on screen and in print. We encourage variant layouts for different media. The mandatory elements of design are: Front: journal name (Manuscript and Text Cultures), issue name (if present, for example, "Transposition and Monumentality in Pre-Modern Epigraphic and Manuscript Traditions"), volume number, date (year), the logo of the Centre; Spine: journal name, volume number, date (year), logo (optional). Back: text: "Manuscript and Text Cultures is the journal of the Centre for Manuscript and Text Cultures, The Queen's College in the University of Oxford", ISSN, e-ISSN. We would like to have some variation in the design of journal issues, which can involve colour or individual design elements, that we could change ourselves following the guidelines received from the designer. We would like to have a design that does not age too quickly and would stand out from the crowd of academic journals in terms of brightness, disruption, engagement, style, creativity and technology. Our preferred print size is 234 x 156, but the screen design should not be constrained by it. We provide the vector files of the Centre's logo, of which you can choose the variant you prefer or use them in combination. We also provide some images of manuscript and epigraphic artefacts, as a source of inspiration.
We are open to plain designs or ones that use graphic elements.
