We are a state air traffic navigation company and expect to train our staff online. Our staff are in three categories: air traffic controllers (ATC), aviation information management staff (AIM), air traffic safety electronics staff (ATSEP). Staff in each categories are responsible to take courses every year, it is obligatory. They should renew their knowledge with courses. Currently these courses are taken in a traditional class environment. By OLS, It will be transferred to online system.
What's your vision?
We want to train our staff (ATC/AIM/ATSEP) with online courses. Course contents will be as video type. Courses has sections, sections include content as video and multiple choice test. Statistics of staff about courses should be tracked. Designers can be inspired by following web sites from functionality and user interface view: 1- https://www.coursera.org/ (login required for details) 2- https://www.udemy.com (login required for details) 3- https://www.pluralsight.com/ (login required for details) There will be mainly two user types: instructor, staff. (admin user type will be extended by us) Instructor: Create/edit courses, track courses' status/statistics of staff Staff: Take online courses Web application will include 5 Pages: 1- Course create/edit Page 2- Course Main Page 3- Section View Page 4- Home Page 5- Login Page 1- Course create/edit Page: Courses include following fields: Basic Information: Course name, Course Description, Instructor(s) (from the database) Course Picture: Add/edit picture from local computer. It will be used as banner of the video Course Access: ATC / AIM / ATSEP (course can be accessed from selected staff categories) Sections: Each section includes: Section Name, Description, Loaded Video Content(s), Loaded section downloadable sources (doc, ppt, pdf, rar etc). Tests can also be added. Sections/Tests order should be changed easily. Test(s): (Tests include multiple choice questions). Test Name, Question Text, Answer Options (dynamic number of options). Right Answer (selected from options) Announcements: View previous announcements with date and creator name surname, add new announcement Settings: Video contents are downloadable (true/false), Forum is included in course (true/false), Forums are included in sections (true/false), 3 more settings (will be added by us) - Sections and Tests can be deleted and edited. 2- Course Main Page This page is like a view page of Course create/Edit Page. Additionally, staff will see his/her current status of each section/test: How many percent of video is watched by staff; What is score of the test. And information about general status of course (Total Video Time, Watched Video Time, Total Test Number, Taken Test Number). And for instructors there will be another tab that show staff that take this course (with watch time (percentage) and average test score info) 3- Section view Page: This page includes: resizable video player, forum, downloadable sources. Note that each section can include multiple video content. User should return to Course Main Page easily. User should go Next Section and Previous Section easily. User can share information via forum. 4- Home Page: This page will include courses. Instructors can edit their own courses. Staff can view courses. There should be warnings about staff who have not taken the courses yet. Home page includes menu bar, header, footer, body. Menu bar: Home Page, Courses, Staff, Administration, Sign Out. Footer: Help, Contact, About 5- Login page: user name, password, forgot password fields.
NOTE-1: Our company is an aviation company, so style should be inspired by this domain. We have also other web applications that uses primefaces spark theme (http://primefaces.org/layouts/spark). Designers can be inspired from this theme also. We are public company, so style should not be very unofficial. By the way my favorite styles are Google Drive and Google Plus web site designs. NOTE-2: We are planning to extend our work with the selected designer. NOTE-3: There is no rating for courses (no stars) and it will be free courses for our staff, for training purposes only. This system will be used inside company, not public. NOTE-4: Number of courses will be limited, approximately 50 courses.
