tobiasfrenzel got their new product label by running a design contest:
Craft beer labels for a small German brewery

Food & Drink
We are a small craft brewery startup based in East Germany. We started brewing 8 years ago in our restaurant. This year we founded a new company and will be expanding our brewing to be able to serve our delicious beer not only to our guests in the restaurant but to customers in the region and beer lovers around the world. As we will be filling more bottles… We have to take a more serious approach to our labeling. The new labels will be the first step on this path. Frenzel-Bräu is intended as a brand that combines contemporary modernity with traditional brewing techniques. It is a simple and honest brand communicating high quality standards. Our primary target market consists of craft beer drinkers, aged 25-45 looking for good quality products and willing to pay for that quality and regionalism. They will be aware of the difference between industrial beer/handmade craft beer and interested in trying new things. Our brewery is in Bautzen, a wonderful medieval town famous for its many towers.
What's your vision?
We would like you to create 3 beer labels for our selection of beers that will soon be put on the market. For easier and faster labeling, each label will be a half-wrap and all will have the same dimensions. An appealing graphic/shapes/lines should appear on the front of the bottle and on the sides should appear the general and legal written information for the customer. The front and sides can be visually different through the use of colors or gradients, or the same. Surprise us. Our logo must be incorporated into each front face, but it should not be too conspicuous. Color, size, and position can be adjusted depending on what the design is. See the Sierra Nevada labels on picture 10 for reference. We would also like each label to be different with regards to color and design. However, the order of the information written on the sides and where it sits should be uniform for all labels, although colors and design should depend on the particular design of the front face. Please see the attached zip file for the pictures and the specific information that must go on each label (PDF file). You have a relatively free rein with regards to the type of graphic that is included. A design approach as per picture 20 is preferred, but we are also willing to consider a more art-like picture style, such as on the Sierra Nevada labels. The different beer styles should also be presented by subtle (like in picture 40) or not so subtle incorporation of graphics reminding customers of the ingredients… We want to use two different types of bottles (crown cap bottles sealed with a shrink capsule and swing top bottles). If you have mock-ups resembling the kind of thing we are looking for then please use those. Please see pictures 50 and 60 for ideas. We do not need a neck label at this point. In picture 80 I put everything the labels should have in common together. The shape is rectangular and the height is fixed at 9 cm but the width can be changed and vary from 12 up to 15 cm. The label should be easy to rescale for different bottle sizes. Colorful but original is important. Feel free to be creative with color if it suits your purpose and differentiates the packaging. All files should be layered and editable. Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop. Feel free to ask any questions… Thanks and Good Luck!
The label design is the first step in the development of our brand. If possible, we would like to use the winner to design further labels (at least 2 more relatively soon after the competition) in the future as well as other packaging, promotional and point of sale materials etc.
