Description of the product
I'm an independent wine importer in New Delhi, India, with a portfolio that includes Anakena from Chile (8 labels), Mionetto Prosecco from Italy (3 labels) and Santa Carolina from Chile (6 labels). Now I'm looking to launch a small wine label of my own, in conjunction with a partner vineyard in Italy, who will produce and bottle for me before shipping to India. The name for this initial label is Fishing Cat (there will be at least one more), after the wild cat that lives in the wetlands of West Bengal and the foothills of the Himalayas (https://goo.gl/EswcU8). There will be both red (4) and white (3) wines, with Merlot, Cab, Sangiovese, Tribbiano, Chianti, Chardonnay & Sauvignon Blanc varieties.
Description of the product target audience
With the growth of the middle-class, India has a rapidly expanding wine market, (https://goo.gl/Vj8EtF). But the new Indian consumer presents a unique set of marketing challenges, as their perception of wine and alcohol in general is quite different from Europe or America. While there's a desire and a curiosity around wine, there's also trepidation. For some wine is an esoteric drink, for others it's the preserve of the rich and privileged. But there is definitely a demand, from the young professional to the CEO, from the modern housewife to the golf club member. There's also the large ex-pat community, who are an important market, but not the most important market for us. Most important is the domestic consumer. So the target audience is very wide: 21-75, men and women with disposable income, but ideally focussed on an emerging consumer who is curious about wine, has a burgeoning sense of aesthetics and taste, who is interested in pleasure, good friends and not hung up on tradition or pretence. And who, at the end of the day, wants to drink well while getting drunk.
