Walker Hills Cellars (wines)
Description of the product
A wine brand from a small mountain vineyard in the Walker Hills area above Temecula, CA. The brand produces wine from a unique setting in the Temescal Mountains - at 1,350 ft above sea level with deteriorated volcanic soil and only 20 miles from the Pacific Ocean. A fine-wine brand (portfolio's price range will be $25-$45 with reserves being priced higher) produced by a renowned winemaker, the wines intend (by merit of the vineyard) to elevate the current standard of this historic yet relatively obscure Southern California wine region.
Description of the product target audience
Wine consumers who enjoy "discovering" wines with a compelling story and which reflect a unique "placeness". The vineyard itself and hence the local community is San Diego area and thus Orange County and Los Angeles marketplace(s) as well. It's a Bourgeois/"boujee" level ; )
Front label for a 750ml bottle of wine. Be creative. It's a redemption story for a pioneering/renowned winemaker. The brand is Walker Hills Cellars - primary "Walker Hills", while "Cellars" can be secondary. No specific font yet exists so ideally it's a manipulated version of a widely available font, or a rare font, or perhaps itself the main icon of the package (script-like). Ideally, the font is evocative and plays on an aspect of the icon/imagery of the package. As for the imagery/icon itself perhaps playing on the mountain terrain or vineyard (vine) theme, the idea of artisanal/manual/pioneering work (or like a cattle brand), or artisan winemaking such as the notion of a basket press, puncheon or oak barrel(s). For TTB compliance, the back label (to be designed separately from this project, will technically be the front label as defined by Government) will include the produced & bottle statement and Bonded Winery details. That said, this label will need to include Vintage, Varietal & Appellation in its design. (minimum of 2mm in font size for each). For each use: Vintage is: 2018 Varietal is: Cabernet Sauvignon Appellation: Temecula Valley (but if something like "Mountains of" or "Mountains above" could be incorporated as a preface that would be ideal - artistic license. Alc by volume is needed also but can and should be less prominent, like on the side of the label. As for a value, please use 14.4% in 1mm font size.
What to avoid
Not a CPG / Grocery brand. Think classic Bordeaux wine labels.
Approx (front label) dimensions: 4.5in x 5in (WxL)

And then… they selected 2 winners!
Beyond pure design talents, at.art went above-and-beyond to help us acheive a wine label beyond our intial imaginations (and brief). Moreover, the level of attention and service brought to the process was world class. As the winner of our Contest, at.art's designs were vetted by a group of stakeholders. Every time we hit a contest milestone, our feedback was taken to make refinements that always ended up going beyond the simple request our group proposed. At.art is truly a great designer that cares deeply giving the client "what they want".
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
