Eda’s Sugarfree is a 50 year old company, founded in Brooklyn NY that makes the best tasting Sugarfree hard candy in the marketplace today. The company sells bulk candy to candy stores and has a 6 ounce retail bag that is inexpensive and dated. The low quality of the graphics and the bag undermine the very high quality of the product. The yellow color and Edwardian Script has some brand equity with our current customers but can be changed for a good reason. Company market research has shown that the Sugarfree category is slowly declining in general for three reasons: 1) consumers have had bad experience in the past with other sugar free products and are skeptical of the word “sugarfree” 2) there is fear and confusion about synthetic sweeteners (which we do not use) 3) more available substitute products in the form of nuts, dried fruit etc. www.edassugarfree.com The company has decided to invest in a new 3.5 once stand-up pouch bag with zipper. The goal is to have the quality of the graphics and the quality of the package will match the superior quality of the product. The current consumer of Eda’s is 55 years old or older who has diet concerns (there are 30 million diabetics in the US and 80 million pre-diabetics). The target channel for the new bag will be the grocery market and drug store channel, with some limited opportunity in C-store. Our research shows that females age 34-50 are most likely to try a new product like Eda’s for the first time, they also will refer this product to their older aunt, uncle or parent who may have health issues which requires low sugar intake. Visit www.swaggable.com/products/Sugarfree-Candies to read the reviews and it will give you an idea of the general reaction of the samplers.
What's your vision?
Dimensions: 5”wide 8” high with 2.5” gusseted bottom While we are part of the Sugarfree category, we think we should downplay the word Sugarfree, promote that we are "naturally sweetened, Gluten Free, zero net carbs have no aftertaste in place of the six "no"s that appear on the current bag. The product provides “indulgence without sugar”. We use a natural sweetener, sorbitol, but we are not organic or “all natural” because we use art. coloring. We are certified Kosher Parve by the Orthodox Union Because of relatively low volume, we plan on using one bag for our top 8 moving SKU and applying a flavor sticker on the front and a barcode label on the back. The flavor sticker and bag graphics must be consistent. Because we are a small company with little brand recognition, the bag should include a window in the front to allow the consumer to see what they are buying (and possibly the side or back also allow light in. The back will need the ingredient/nutrition panel, space for barcode label ( 1.75”x0.5” place holder should be left on the back of the bag for the application of a barcode label and some copy that explains our story and our sweetener-Sorbitol (Sorbitol sounds like a chemical and is not!!) The current bag is way too busy and uses a yellow PMS 101C which stand out in the candy isle but is not in style right now. I can provide this copy. Of the top 8 flavors, three are “assorted mixes” which each have ten flavors so the label must have room to list the flavors. (Mixed Fruit, Tropical Mix, Lemon). leave a place holder for the flavor sticker on the front somewhere. It is our intention to eventually rebrand the company around this bag so that the other collateral and website etc. look is consistent with the bag that is available in stores. We think the word Eda's should be enlarged and like the Edwardian Script. The word sugrfree needs to appear but must be downplayed. We like the tag line of "Indulgence without Sugar"
