FoxWebstores got their new product packaging by running a design contest:
DiatomaceousEarth.com needs an eye-catching package design
Check out FoxWebstores's Product packaging contest…
Food & Drink
DiatomaceousEarth.com is the largest online resource for all things diatomaceous earth, a natural substance produced from fossilized diatoms. This product is 100% food grade, and is used as a natural supplement. As such we want the packaging to 'taste good' and give a clean, organic feel without needing to say it. Our target audience includes everyone who is looking for a safe natural way to increase their overall health and wellbeing. Those who tend to buy organic foods and are concerned about taking care of their body will be interested in diatomaceous earth.
What's your vision?
We need a product package design in the form of a gusset bag/pouch that is 15 inches tall, 7 inches wide and 5 inches deep. It must clearly communicate the following: • Design has to reflect a food product. Needs to 'taste good' • The largest font has to be “Diatomaceous Earth” • The second largest has to be “Food Grade” • We also need in a large font the weight of 10 lbs. • Design needs to have an organic feel without saying it • I like high contrast designs that are easily recognizable • I also like having a bold ribbon in the design (see the examples below) • Primarily use greens and browns. Other accent colors can be used. We will be choosing the winner on the following criteria: • Is the design professional? • Does it hit our target market? • Is it attractive? • Will it be economical to print? Things to avoid: • Avoid cold-feeling colors • Avoid clutter. We want the design to be as clean and simple as possible.
Feel free to change the colors of our logo if needed to fit the design. Here's a list of images that have qualities we're looking for: http://mydesigncentral.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/p1obao-5dw.jpeg?w=600&h=466&crop=1 This is my favorite example. I particularly like the blue bag on the right. It's compost, but is designed like a food item. I like the colors and the silhouettes. http://d8u1nmttd4enu.cloudfront.net/designs/13218868~8ea25e9e5dacfcb7922897bf59cc0d39b18865b7-original I like the bold ribbon in the middle of a clean design. http://www.1stwebdesigner.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/organic-wines-yellow-blue.jpg I like the use of a bright accent color. It's bold. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7207/6942424969_64976db57f.jpg This example gives a very organic feel while still using a color accent. Don't go so crazy with the shape of the packaging though. It needs to be affordable to produce. http://m1.behance.net/rendition/modules/20833199/disp/e67d6d88d1847b155e5b5e317f632061.JPG Another organic example with color accent. http://www.packiii.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Custom-Product-Homlagarden-Packaging-Design-Awards-Photos-Gallery.jpg I like the color and texture of the greens in this. http://lovelypackage.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/lovely-package-beanies-1.jpg This design is simple, has a strong bold font and includes that idea of a ribbon at the top. http://speckycdn.sdm.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/packaging-design-19.jpg Clean and bold. http://blog.esko.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/nuju-organic-packaging.png I like the watermark background and high contrast. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iSHiEyscdIk/TldC86NKWzI/AAAAAAAANT4/sjgzVQEwfHQ/s1600/teaset1.jpg Again, a design with high contrast. We would want a different theme though. https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRmMqsT-w5d6FPydtVcZCcnE7rYFURalzKlyhi1y17EXdLYHyWEJg I like the simplicity of white text on a solid color background. This might be all we need. http://tashcarter.wordpress.com/files/2009/05/leaf_packaging1.jpg?w=300 Another simple design. Could be simple to produce with just a sticker on a plain bag. http://payload22.cargocollective.com/1/6/197474/2755227/right1.jpg Another great example of simplicity, organic feel and bold color ribbon. I like it.
