BigTexasBeerFest got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Awesome web page design needed for Dallas/Fort Worth's first/only Craft Beer Festival!
Check out BigTexasBeerFest's Web page design contest…
Food & Drink
We are Dallas/Fort Worth's first 100% craft beer inspired festival. * This is going to be a huge festival hoping to attract 6,000 people, many of whom we expect will travel for the event. * Participants will be able to sample 300+ different beers, try food from a dozen food trucks, sample artisanal cheese and other select locally-produced foods. * We're a small grassroots business formed by a craft beer loving husband and wife and love supporting small, local business too. * Rock star attitude and designs are encouraged here! * We want something simple and clean but creative.
http://www.coachella.com/ It's a clean festival website, but not sold on the colors used or the use of horizontal space for the topline navigation. Overall though, the design is clean and is a starting point. http://www.davidsalvatori.com/ Clean elements to draw from here, although the middle of the page is cluttered and not what we're after. http://globetrooper.com/ Big fan of the clean design, but the colors are maybe a bit muted for tastes of this contest. Integrated twitter feed is a big bonus, easy to see twitter/facebook links is great. http://www.boconcept.us/ We like the fact this page makes use of a clean horizontal navigation bar and then a full horizontal framed picture below. In general though, the colors are much darker than we're looking for. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any designs we're really in love with. Hopefully our descriptions help and we'll provide feedback along the way to help you all as designers.
Page 1: Homepage, most of the description below will be regarding the homepage. Page 2: Information page - this page can be a FAQ (frequently asked questions page), About Us, or Sponsors page. Consistent layout and feel throughout is of utmost importance. Here are our suggestions on the topline links (more than likely arranged horizontally) across the top in clean text. Tickets About Us Sponsors Travel Press FAQ Contact Widgets located on homepage: Facebook Link Twitter Link Email Signup Ticketing widget It would be nice to have some rotating high-quality images on the main page, but this is only a design suggestion. We're certainly open to other ideas. We don't want a blog style website, this is an informational site where people can go for information and content. This beer festival will be all about education, fun, high-visibility and SIMPLE for ease of access to the content. Nothing should look cluttered. Web 2.0 designs are encouraged, but certainly not required. The homepage should have easy to see Twitter, Facebook, Email sign up and ticketing widgets to get people to the most common places they'll want to access below the main content on the site. We request no cartoon style images. We want high-quality, real people, and probably a lack of "beer splash" style graphics. We want people to envision themselves being at this festival. The festival will take place April 14, 2012 and should be prominently displayed on the homepage, as well as the location of the event which is Fair Park. More specifically the Automobile building (website here: http://www.fairpark.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=232) Please use modern true type fonts (no Times New Roman or other boring overused fonts).
Please include our logo and integrate it seamlessly into the design. The target audience is males and females of all ages who enjoy craft beer, local products and businesses, good food, and fun. We want to portray an educational and fun environment. Please do not include clip art of clinking beer glasses or scantily clad women. The focus here is on craft beer that's made with care and attention to detail, made by hand and people who care about their product. This site should evoke more of a "music festival" feel than a "college drinking party" feel. Rock star attitude is ok, as are modern style and very high quality artwork. We want this festival to be for the people of Dallas/Fort Worth, and something they can be proud of as a community.
