mailQX got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Interactive Flash Cards for Language Learning
Check out mailQX's Web page design contest…
Teach people how to speak Farsi (language from Iran), whose primary language is English. Teaching is done by showing flash cards. The cards will show the farsi word and when they click on press the keyboard it will uncover the result on the other side of the card. People will find the site via a search engine and need to want to stay as soon as they see the site, because they like the look and feel. This will help us show ads, and have them learn a lot.
1) FAST to load 2) Easy to use for long time as you learn the words 3) key board shortcuts for easy to use when learning lots of words 4) Visually appealing for new users that find the site via google
Go right into the flash cards and give the user the ability to move through the cards and see the Farsi and then uncover the English. It should be a gratifying experience to move through them. It should be clear the difference between waiting for the answer and then the result page. Also this site will be monetized with Ads and should have a place for a banner advertisement.
What to avoid
Please don't include anything tying the design the content being Iran, Persian or Farsi, as I may re-use this flash card design for other languages and countries.
It would be good to think about the user experience how the user understands intuitively how to use the site. My current site has a written sentence but better if its intuitive and instructions written in text form are not required for users to understand how to use the site. Advance and translate should be clear. Also we provide random selection to advance and not forward and backward to avoid having a repeated sequence of words that is too easy for them to cheat mentally instead of challenge to learn.
