Bowl of Awesome
Trying to build my cousin an outlet for his creative genius. It will basically be a mashup of all the humorous things he does on the internet with posts about them on bowlofawesome.com
I want the design to be pretty clean and streamlined.
Other than that, the design is pretty much up to you. I like deep colors, and I like a dark main background. I want it to feel "fun" without being childish.
Everything should be pretty well specified in the "what I want" section, so I'll avoid too much detail here.
- File in PSD Format
- Page:
- "Fixed" width (eg not width: 100%; I'll be using ems)
- Header:
- Graphic:
- A lidded bowl, Web 2.0 ish (light gradients, etc)
- Glowing around the lid (the awesome is trying to escape the bowl)
- Sketch shown below
- Site Name:
- Should be stylized, relatively large
- Slogan:
- Text should be stylable through CSS; I want to be able to change the text on the live site.
- In the mockups, should read: Letting Sean loose on the interwebs
- Tabs:
- They don't have to be actual graphical tabs, they just need to indicate the main sections of the site and which section the user is currently on.
- Tab text should be stylable through CSS; I want to be able to change the text on the live site.
- Mockups should have: Home, Archive, About, etc
-
Content:
- Divided by blocks of content
- Blocks of content should be vertically aligned, one right below the other, spanning the full width of the content area.
- There should be strong visual cues to indicate separation between content blocks.
- The page might have 0, 1, or 2 levels of tabs (this is different than the header tabs). Either a custom block should appear in the mockup to display these, or the first block should be designed to support these. Design should look good no matter how many levels of tabs there are.
- I expect to see how these tabs indicated in the design.
- Variations:
- Block containing basic HTML
- Block containing HTML and a floating image with caption
- Block containing one or more unordered lists
- Block containing a single quote, or a conversation-style group of quotes
- An image with caption
- An advertisement (eg a Google ad)
- I expect to see at least a couple of these variations show up in the content blocks
- Meta:
- It would be nice to make sure that I have a set of fonts for each area that cover all platforms
- Would like styling to be shown for visisted/non-visited/external links
- The layout I'm imagining can be seen as an example if you are unclear about the header/content separation I'm looking for as well as the content-specific tabs and clearly separated content blocks. This isn't an example of what I'm looking for in terms of design, just in terms of page structure.
- An excess of images
- A search field
- A sidebar
- Too much branding
