Logo: provided (but needs cleaning up)
Â
Website Bacgground Information: The website directmed.com allows shoppers to browse through many medical components which are used to assemble medical devices (such as blood infusion equipment or intravenous feeding etc). The customer will be a company employee who has created detailed technical drawings of the device they wish to manufacture/assemble and is looking to see if he can find the componenst they need (of the required dimensions). Most medical devices are made up of many discreet componenst that have already been created. However Directmed will also have entirely new components manufactured for their clients if they need them. The website also sells completed Medical Devices.
Inspiration: The logo is green and is provided (needs cleanign up and convertign to vector though) The demographic to appeal to is a technical designer for the medical device market, so a technical/medical motif woudl be appropriate unless you have a better idea. All the componenets are assembled almost like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, so some kind of puzzle motif may also work or some visual represenation fo things fitting together...you may also find it usefull to note that most of these componenst are joined together via clear medical tubing such as you woudl see in an intravenous drip in a hospital, so tubing is a common theme here and could also be wound into the visual motif.
Â
THE EXISTING SITE WILL BE USING PHOTOGRAPHS (LIKE THE ONES ON THE HOME PAGE) ON ALL SUBSEQUENT PAGES INSTEAD OF THE LINE DRAWINGS. THESE PHOTOS SHOULD BE PRESENTED ON A WHITE BACKGROUND I ALREADY HAVE ALL THESE PHOTOGRAPHS WHICH I WILL DISPLAY IN PLAIN HTML INSTEAD OF THE LINE DRAWINGS, I MENTION THIS IS ONLY BECUASE IT IS AN IMPORTANT DESIGN RESTRICTION YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF.
Â
ALSO PLEASE NOTE THAT THE HOME PAGE PHOTOS MAY BE REPLACED BY THE FLASH THAT CAN BE SEEN ON THIS WESBITE suministroscolin.com BOTH THIS FLASH .swf AND THE LOGO CAN BE DOWNLOADED FROM THIS LOCATION http://directmed.com/contest/. HOWEVER IF YOU FEEL YOU CAN MAKE THE SITE LOOK JUST AS GOOD WITHOUT THE FLASH THEN THAT IS FINE TOO. IT IS ATTRACTIVE THOUGH BECAUSE YOU CAN DISPLAY MANY PRODUCTS WITHOUT SCROLLING AND ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS CHANGE THE BACKGROUND COLOR TO MATCH YOUR DESIGN...WHATEVER WAY YOU GO THE 9 PHOTOS CURRENTLY ON THE HOME PAGE (AT A RESOLUTION OF 1024 X 768) SHOUDL BE DISPLAYED ON THE NEW ONE IN SOME WAY AS I WANT THEM TO BE A FEATURE.

Â
Functionality:
Â
There needs to be two menus for navigation:
Â
1. PRODUCT NAVIGATION: Medical Components, Medical Devices, New Products
Â
2. CORP INFO NAVIGATION: Home, Manufacturing, About Us, Contact Us
Â
The website is currently naviagted via menu options in the top banner and the left menu. The links in the top banner should be convereted to a normal horizontal menu. The menu options on the left woudl prefereable appear (after redesign) as "pop menu" options. If you notice right now there are three menu options "New Products" , "Medical Components" and "medical Devices" If these options would appear as a popup menu then a visitor would only see these three menu headings but if they clicked on them they would then see all the first level categories currently displayed under the headings. Once a user selects an option from one of the pop menus the site must function as is (although your new design will make it look better of course)
Â
Please only use flash components that are embedded within the page and do not contain links or text that may be valuable to seacrh engines.
Â
Materials: THE OPTIONAL FLASH .swf AND THE LOGO CAN BE DOWNLOADED FROM THIS LOCATION http://directmed.com/contest/
